White Egret

On Friday morning driving pass an area where an egret forages.  I was finally able to pull over, open up my camera bag, (thinking ahead by putting it in the car this time) change-out to my telephoto lens and capture the S-necked white heron.

The lighting conditions were not ideal as I was shooting into the sun, but was able to still photograph this action shot of the bird catching his prey with the deathblow.  The deathblow is delivered with a quick thrust of the sharp bill, and the prey is swallowed whole and swallow whole it did.
